FRISCO COMET

A montage from the 1980s,
when a comet could be seen in the
sky over the city. It was published
on the editorial page of one of the
issues of THE GOLDEN ROAD
a Grateful Dead fan magazine.
The landscape is San Francisco,
with the bay in the background, and
the dark patch across the city is
Golden Gate Park. The figure of
Father Time is straddling the channel
that connects San Francisco Bay to
the Pacific Ocean called the
Golden Gate and its famous bridge.

The art measures about 5.5 x 8.5
inches on an artboard about 7 x 10.5.

LETTERING — THE ROCK POSTER

The lettering, designed in the mid-1980s, for the cover of the THE ART OF ROCK, by Paul Grushkin, published in 1987. For some reason, the book's original title "The Rock Poster" was changed after publication was delayed for a year, due to contract hassles with some of the artists. This is one of two versions I designed for the title, both of which were never used, although the publisher did place the word ROCK on the title page and embossed on the cover. The lettering art was drawn and inked on tracing vellum, then mounted on an artboard, measuring about 8 x 18 inches, signed, and shrinkwrapped. Click HERE to see this design in my LOGO section.

WAR HEAD

A collage made to
illustrate an
article by Hal Aigner, titled
"Indochina: The War That Just
Won't Quit," appearing in
CITY MAGAZINE,
Jan 22–Feb 4, 1975.

The piece has been mounted
on an artboard measuring
about 12 x 16 inches,
signed, and shrinkwrapped.
Although the signature did not
scan well through the shrinkwrap,
for some reason, it
is perfectly fine on the original.
