Santana / Portal Publications / 1977
A little known poster with a full-bleed montage, the left and right sides being mirror images, and the only lettering being the name SANTANA across the top. This poster, measuring 20 x 28 inches, has a mystical theme — an Inca shaman experiencing a vision. Only a few are available, because the publisher neglected to get permission from the band to use their name, and the bulk of the run was destroyed by court order. It belonged to a series of posters that were designed by well known graphic artists to illustrate popular bands. As far as I know, none were released, since too many posters in the series met the same fate as this one. A costly miscalculation by the publisher — Portal Publications of Corte Madera, California. I actually designed two posters in the series; this one, and an ELO poster that was also destroyed. The whole thing was very depressing, especially as many of the designs, including mine, were first rate. None of the ELO posters are for sale at this time.

Proof Set

Paul McCartney / Memorial Stadium / UC Berkeley / 1990
Seven-proof set of Uncut Press-Sheets and Final Poster (all signed) — $450

This poster was printed with CMYK process inks. CMYK is an acronym for Cyan (blue), Magenta (red), Yellow, and blacK—although the sequence of printing is normally Yellow first, followed by Magenta, then Cyan, and finally blacK. Thus a complete proof set of an offset-litho image usually has seven sheets with these colors:
1) Yellow only.
2) Magenta only.
3) Yellow and Magenta together.
4) Cyan only.
5) Yellow, Magenta, and Cyan together.
6) blacK only.
7) Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, and blacK together—the fully printed but untrimmed sheet.

There were about twenty sets of these proofs, and I was given five.
