MANDALA Prints / 1978
PIC
1. Queen Bee $80
2. Passage $80
3. Lotus $80
4. Khepera $120
Set of all four Mandalas $300
Devoid of lettering, these 24 inch square posters, printed on heavy stock, are like fine art prints. A fascination with mirror imagery inspired me to make a series of kaleidoscopic montages, four of which were produced by Portal Publications. After I designed a segment of each print, using mirrors to see the whole, the craftsmen at Gregory & Falk, in San Francisco, skillfully pieced each image together with invisible seams. They are perhaps my most magical designs. The scans are mediocre and do not do them justice.
SUMMER OF LOVE "30th Anniversary" / 1997 $40
PIC
Uncut press-sheet (poster and 9 cards) $150
A poster, beautifully printed by Dauser Press, for the 30th Anniversary open-air concert commemorating the famous 1967 outdoor hippie gathering. The "Summer of Love" lettering in the shape of a heart, at the center of this poster, is the logo I designed for this event that appeared on all the advertising, a variety of products and memorabilia, as well as the posters by other artists. The celebration took place in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. The poster measures 12 x 18 inches.
SPIRAL SERPENT, Spirit of the New Millennium / 1996 $30
PIC
Uncut press-sheet $75
"The Graphic Art of David Singer Spirit of the NEW MILLENNIUM" is the lettering on this self-published poster, printed with the expertise of Dauser Press. The drawn central image of a spiraling serpent was originally created to grace the second album of a Japanese rock band, called Mariah, in the mid-1980s, but the album was never released. This band had previously used one of my mandala images (Passage), for the cover of their first album. The printed press-sheet is striking, with the poster set at an angle, a technique used to assure smooth distribution of the inks.
HENRY MILLER Centennial Celebration / 1991 $60
PIC
Uncut press-sheet (poster and 3 cards) $200
A poster advertising the events celebrating the 100th birthday of Henry Miller, who lived in Big Sur in his later years. Among this California coastal art-community's most famous residents, he helped put the region on the cultural map. The celebration was jointly sponsored by the Henry Miller Memorial Library of Big Sur and the University of California at Berkeley.
David Singer at The Poster (Gallery)
San Francisco / 1971 $225
A black and white poster for a gallery show that took place a few months after Fillmore West closed. I sometimes use the design of my name on this poster as a logo. The show, itself, was notable for the fact that BG#287, the poster I designed to commemorate the Closing Week of the Fillmore, was unveiled at this event, with Bill Graham and some of his staff in attendance. Because Graham closed the Fillmore with little advance notice, no poster had been commissioned for the final week of concerts, and the Closing Week poster was a gift to Bill, from his staff and myself, to fill in that blank at the end of the series. The show took place at The Poster, a gallery that specialized in poster art and photography. The poster measures 14.75 x 26 inches.
State Theater Opening / 1971 $120
Uncut press-sheet (poster and 9 cards) $240
A drawn poster for Cronus Productions, designed to announce the opening of a new rock concert hall in an old theater in the town of Martinez, California. Unfortunately, the opening never took place, and a second poster, designed to advertise this first event, was ready for printing when the organizers disbanded.
The Cannery / San Francisco / 1973 $75
This poster is visually unique, with a drawn figure of a woman holding an encircled star (a logo of the Cannery) printed over a multi-colored scene in the background, created by printing an old engraving in several colors. It was designed to advertise a San Francisco landmark, an old canning factory recycled into a fashionable complex of shops and restaurants.
San Francisco Marathon / San Francisco / 1979 $100
PIC
A completely drawn design, with the figure of a running Indian as the main element. My only sports related poster.
Gateway To The Golden West / 1984 $75
A whimsical and surreal San Francisco travel poster, featuring a large collage with the lettering beneath it "SAN FRANCISCO, Gateway to the Golden West." Published by Celestial Arts, Berkeley.
ReaganMaster of Ceremonies / 1984 $40
A surreal montaged image, with Ronald Reagan as the "Master of Ceremonies" at a grandiose political convention. Published by Celestial Arts, Berkeley.
Illuminati, "The Record Release Tour" / 1996 $30
Uncut press-sheet $50
Another self-published poster, printed by Dauser Press. It advertised a series of concerts by the extraordinary rock-orchestra, Illuminati, playing their arrangement of the Grateful Dead album, "Blues for Allah." The poster's central image a piece of abstract Arabic calligraphy based on an old Islamic design is a prayer to Allah. This poster is also printed at an angle on the press-sheet.
