This unique poster, larger than the double-size Fillmore posters, was commissioned by Santana and printed in England. Santana was affiliated with Bill Graham Presents, at the time, and the band's management shared the BGP offices, so I usually list this poster as a BGP item. The design was also reproduced on the cover of the Tour Program.
Santana 20th Anniversary Celebration
Shoreline / 1986 — $140
This was the first poster designed for a concert at Shoreline, the famous outdoor amphitheater that Bill Graham built south of San Francisco. Many members of earlier Santana bands attended this 20th Anniversary concert, along with their families, and participated in numerous jams. Anyone who was there will remember it as a very special event.
Paul McCartney
Memorial Stadium / UC Berkeley / 1990 — $120
I designed this poster for Bill Graham (shortly before his tragic death) to commemorate a concert he produced for the famous Beatle and his band at the University of California. The event took place in Berkeley's Memorial Stadium, home to the University's football team, the Golden Bears, so I gave the poster a yellow-gold background and included a California brown bear in the large montage. Although I never got to meet the star performer, he graciously signed one of the posters for me, writing "David, Nice One, Cheers, Paul McCartney" across the center. This poster (my 75th BGP design) has a full-bleed montage with unusual lettering.
