David Singer Posters

| During my career as a graphic artist, I have designed more than 100 posters. Many of these works were commissioned by Bill Graham, the famous San Francisco promoter, for his company, Bill Graham Presents, known as BGP.
From June of 1969 through July of 1971, I designed 67 posters for BGP to advertise musical events at Fillmore West ballroom, with occasional concerts at Winterland. These works are part of the original Fillmore series that ended with BG#287, my poster to commemorate Fillmore's closing week. Over the next several decades, I designed another 8 BGP posters to commemorate special events the most recent for Paul McCartney's 1990 appearance at Berkeley's Memorial Stadium making a total of 75 BGP works. Several of these later posters were designed for Santana, a band affiliated with BGP, at the time, and whose management shared the BGP offices. My entry into poster-making evolved out of my fascination with the medium of collage. In the late 1960s, I began making collages out of pictures I collected from old magazines and books, and I showed a series of these works to Bill Graham at a time when he was looking for something new. Initially, the posters I designed were vehicles for publishing my collages, which I framed with the lettering. My first 12 advertised the 1969 summer concerts all double bills and over the next few years, I designed another 55 posters of the original Fillmore series, more than any other artist, as it turned out. I hope to expand this introduction in the future.
